I was very honoured to be part of the team that created the new FAW Women's Cup. It was commissioned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the women's competition. My role was to create an image celebrating the last 30 years of women's football in Wales.
I created several drawings and then after meetings and consultations with FAW and the trophy makers - Inkerman, London - we selected the drawing of three figures playing football being watched by a big crowd that you can see in the images here. I had to consider how the image would sit next to the Mens' Trophy and I decide to include a flag to mirror the Men's Cup.
I loved working with another women-led business (Inkerman is led by Kiki Grigson) and working digitally using vectors so that the drawing could be easily converted into an engraving.
The cup was revealed at the FAW draw for the next stage of the Women's Cup in September 2023. I was asked to be a guest drawer for the event!
It really is a once in lifetime commission as the Cup is intended for use for the next 100 years!
